About Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer affects about 1 in 8 U.S. women. That is just one of the many reasons that October was declared National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 1985, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease and raise funds for research. It also reminds women to be “breast cancer aware” for early detection.

“While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same,” according to nationalbreastcancer.org.

Thanks in part to the efforts of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there are currently more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States. This number will only grow with the generous donations of people, like you. So even if you don’t purchase a pair of our shorts, we hope you will consider donating to this great cause.

About the Pink Ribbon

In 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons during a New York City race for breast cancer survivors. Then, in 1993, Alexandra Penney, a breast cancer survivor and Senior Corporate Vice President of Estée Lauder, founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and established the pink ribbon as its symbol.
