What is Breast Cancer? Non-Invasive vs. Invasive
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts when cells in the breast divide and grow into surrounding tissues or spread to other areas of the body.
- 50-75% of breast cancers start in the milk ducts.
- 10-15% of breast cancers start in the lobules.
Non-Invasive vs. Invasive Breast Cancer
Known as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), non-invasive breast cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow inside the milk ducts, but have not spread elsewhere. The term “in situ” literally means “in place.” Invasive breast cancer, meanwhile, occurs when abnormal cells grow inside the milk ducts and grow into (invade) surrounding tissues.
Breast Cancer Awareness – By the Numbers
Did you know that one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime? In 2015 alone, it is estimated there will be 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 60,290 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer, according to BreastCancer.org. The good news, breast cancer incidence rates in the U.S. have been steadily decreasing since 2000, and death rates since 1989. This is, in part, due to the ever-increasing number of donations to international, national, and local charities.
Supporters, like Sandlot Swag, hope that money raised for breast cancer will produce a reliable, permanent cure.

Sandlot Swag’s Breast Cancer Awareness Shorts are our way of showing our support to help find a cure for breast cancer. These shorts not only look great and help spread awareness for such a worthy cause, but a portion of the proceeds raised from every sale will be donated to a local breast cancer charity to help fight for a cure.
All of our baseball shorts are designed with a side seam, slit pockets, elastic waistband and drawstring, and feature the Sandlot Swag logo on the side panel. We use a sublimation process in which the designs are dyed directly into the fabric, meaning the design will not wear away over time.
