The History of the 4th of July
Everyone’s favorite American-themed holiday is right around the corner. But do you know when it started? More importantly, do you know what the 4th of July is actually celebrating? In a world lost in parades and fireworks, it can be easy to forget the true meaning of the 4th of July, also known as Independence Day (No, not the Will Smith movie).
You see, it all started in 1776, when the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence and, on – you guessed it! – the 4th of July, signed the Declaration of Independence. Since that day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence. However, the 4th of July wasn’t recognized an official federal holiday until 1941.
